eventness: A Concept of the Theatrical Event

Playing rather than signification marks the performing arts when seen as theatrical events. Contexts rather than styles distinguish one kind of artistic experience from another.

Eventness has been written for new scholars and students who are not yet familiar with the concept of the Theatrical Event. It can also be read as a summary of Willmar Sauter's theoretical investigations in various articles and books over the last decade.

The principle of pleasure brings back players and audiences to new events. Not all theatrical experiences, however, happen in theatres, nor are they always pleasurable.
