Echoes of the War

Sir James Matthew Barrie, 1st Baronet, OM (9 May 1860 - 19 June 1937), more commonly known as J. M. Barrie, was a Scottish novelist and dramatist. He is best remembered for creating Peter Pan, the boy who refused to grow up. His book "e;ECHOES OF THE WAR"e; contains four short stories. "e;THE OLD LADY SHOWS HER MEDALS"e;, "e;THE NEW WORD"e;, "e;BARBARA'S WEDDING"e;, and "e;A WELL-REMEMBERED VOICE"e; The stories, like "e;Peter Pan,"e; are about death and loss and the way family life tries to tame-literally, to domesticate-those painful realities. While "e;Peter Pan"e; is essentially and deliberately timeless, "e;Echoes of the War"e; is firmly anchored in the time of The Great War and the social disruptions it created.
