In Do The DAKI, a SEL Program for K-3 Educators, authors Kelly Leslie and Joyce Tam create a year-long instructional resource to facilitate social emotional growth in the classroom. Using the four pillars in the DAKI program: differences, acceptance, kindness, and inclusion, educators will equip students to manage their stress, build resilience, and develop healthy relationships built on a foundation of respect for diversity and inclusion. Easy-to-use lesson plans will establish the foundation for a collaborative learning environment and community. Students will deepen their understanding of self, while supporting one another.

The program aligns with six picture books by Kelly Leslie, The Hannah Series and Bruno Series. Ensuring neurodiverse children see themselves represented in print is the author's motivation. Also, the catalyst to educate students from a young age about the strengths their neurodiverse classmates possess. Do The DAKI evolved as an extension to the messages in these books. As noted by Brenda Spencer, Teacher Librarian, Toronto DSB, " I am absolutely delighted to house such brilliant and purposeful books that bring a positive meaning to the words: difference, acceptance, kindness, and inclusion. What a bonus to be introduced to the DAKI program, with its many ideas and lesson plans that have been well thought out by Kelly Leslie and Joyce Tam, giving the educator a chance to follow elaborate activities, to these meaningful stories."

Do The DAKI was born out of the desire to reinforce that classrooms are safe spaces for all. The authors believe, "As educators, we have always known the importance of addressing the social emotional, as well as the academic development, of our students."
