Diagnosis Related Groups in Europe

The use of measures of hospital "production" is an important advance in the domain of hospital management. The rapid evolution and improvement of case mix measuring systems, and their swift introduction in Europe, demand constant efforts to keep them up-to-date. This book presents a view of the development and application of case mix measurement systems in Europe. It is the result of a collaboration of eight teams of experts under the aegis of a project of the European Community. It offers a picture of the current situation of hospital management information in Europe and of the incorporation of case mix measurement systems, bringing together several cases of adaptation and the use of these instruments in the management and distribution of resources in hospitals in recent years and in various countries. It is complemented by two studies which have attempted to create continent-wide databases among comparable hospitals.
