Class and modern society

The goal of the American political thinker, Frederick Martin Stern, in his book "A Classless Society" is not to propagate the American social and political system, but rather to confront the preconceptions that people have about the United States, which he sees as mostly wrong.Classes are the primary topic for sociologists, political scientists, anthropologists, and social historians. However, there is no agreement on the definition of the word class. Sociologists argue that societies are classified into a hierarchical system of "social and economic classes" based on economic status, wealth, or income. From ancient history to the development of trade and industry, many historians and economists have used a dualistic model to view societies as consisting of an upper class of the largely wealthy and powerful, and a lower class of the poor and weak. The development of urbanization and trade, and following industrialization, resulted in the emergence of an increasingly powerful economic middle class of artisans, merchants, manufacturers, and highly paid professionals.
