Chasing Plastic

CHASING PLASTIC is a young adult fiction sports story that is a fast-paced read for teenaged readers, written with both hesitant and avid readers in mind. When her best friend Trina comes back from camp talking-up her experiences with ultimate frisbee, fifteen-year-old Kate is less than enthusiastic about Trina's newest passion. Still, she reluctantly joins Trina at tryouts for their high school ultimate team and is soon thrown head first into the sport. Kate struggles with the game, watching, often quite literally, from the sidelines as Trina finds success on the field. As the season progresses, Kate faces an increasingly rocky relationship with her best friend, her mother's unexpected illness, and the looming reality of failing her first term of grade ten. Despite her difficulties embracing the game, Kate ultimately finds the support and compassion she needs to get through her hardest challenges with her new teammates. They become her confidantes, tutors, and greatest supporters when she needs them the most. In the ultimate team, she finds a community where she belongs.
