THE BLUE HORSE is the story of a horse named Ruben who dreamed of going to college while facing self-esteem and academic struggles in a school setting. Ruben is determined, despite all the obstacles presented to second-language learners, to achieve his personal and academic goals. THE BLUE HORSE is a children's book with a dual-language methodology approach for English and Spanish language learners. The main purpose of THE BLUE HORSE is to encourage structured classroom conversations to allow students to reach high levels of academic language and to develop crucial skills related to second- language acquisition. THE BLUE HORSE nurtures literacy skills by allowing students to read with a purpose, to integrate new information, and to identify the writer's point of view. THE BLUE HORSE recognizes that reading and language acquisition, are like any other skills; they take time and practice.
