The first part of this collection of stories: THE STEPHEN LEMKO STORIES follows a young man as he tries to adjust to secular life after he had dropped out of, not only the seminary/religious life, but also out of religion itself; in HERE AND THERE STORIES, the second part of the book, neighbors and lifelong friends still manage to feud over something unimportant; a lifelong Catholic, now divorced and remarried, wonders if it is God or the devil who is encouraging him to receive Communion; a writer finds himself in a situation for which he had not bargained; a priest plans an overnight away from his official sacerdotal duties; Karen is everything a man in our society could ever want, but there is something missing which makes the narrator hesitate to marry her; a man is haunted by an obligation which he entered into in his youth.
