Unlike its hard-copy predecessors--the U.S. Coast Guard's Navigation Rules: International-Inland series) and Navigation Rules and Regulations Handbook-it foregoes side-by-side portrayal and adopts a single-page layout that sets out the differences between each set of Rules.

This hardcover-printed Amalgamation may be used to meet the requirement of Inland Rule 1(g) "The operator of each self-propelled vessel 12 meters or more in length shall carry, on board and maintain for ready reference, a copy of these Rules."
