This text then examines the available information on the rates of occurrence of diabetes mellitus in the United States, which has been limited to relative frequencies among clinical subgroups. Other chapters consider the five-year prospective study of 10,000 adult men to determine the incidence, prevalence, and major factors associated with the development of the condition. This book discusses as well the epidemiologic studies of diabetes to determine which environmental factors contribute to the risk of diabetes. The final chapter deals with somatic development in children. This book is a valuable resource for diabetologists, social anthropologists, and clinicians.
