Shakespeare's Use of Song

Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. Dr. E. H. Fellowes has very kindly added an Appendix in which is contained the words of Desdemona's Willow Song adapted to the old melody. Special value attaches to this contribution because, not only is this the first occasion, as far as I am aware, that the melody has been printed in connexion with Shakespeare's words, but also readers are provided with a version of the music on which absolute reliance can be placed. In addition to his being a special authority on the music of the period, Dr. Fellowes enjoys the rare distinction of combining excellent musicianship with sound scholarship.
