The Power of Being Seen illustrates how a foster child, striving to have a normal childhood, is given encouragement by teachers and neighbors. Those outsiders motivated him to be a better person and avoid the traps that frequently capture marginalized children.
On the one hand, the author accurately describes feelings of abandonment, helplessness, anger, resentment, and hopelessness to the point of suicidal actions, while on the other hand, he shows optimism, vision, creativity, courage, and sensitivity.
