Facing My Truth: Ieisha's Story

Growing up in the streets of Detroit, trying to figure out who I was and where I fit in, I felt like I had no other option but to hide the monstrous truth of my home life. Survival was a day to day task, so feeling sorry for myself was never an option. I survived impoverished living conditions, bullying, parental abandonment, extreme physical abuse towards my siblings and me, sexual abuse at the hands of my stepfather and ultimately, teen pregnancy. My strength and faith in God somehow found a way to grow. Now that I'm an adult and a young mother, I need to finally Face My Truth and deal with what I have kept hidden for so long. Confronting my abuser gave me a sense of pride I never knew I could feel. Now I need to tell my story, so others like me know they are not alone. This is my story and the beginning of a long journey ahead as I begin to move forward toward hope and a bright future.
