Marie Salten, Peter's mom, holds a graduate degree in counseling psychology. In her introduction to Adolescent Abroad, she describes Peter's early life, and the development of their close relationship. Marie also provides commentary for each of Peter's letters, to give factual, psychological and social context to his thoughts, feelings, experiences.
