Zhou Shixin has studied Chinese painting since he was eight years old. He thought that "e;painting is my lifelong business"e; and has been active in art circle for more than 60 years.Over the past decades, more than 10000 works have been created, numerous awards have been granted and many articles and monographs have been published.This book has selected and collected 33 articles written by Professor Zhou from 1954 to 1999. The contents include a brief introduction to Chinese painting appreciation and painting theory, an analysis of the works of ancient and modern famous painters and the anecdotes of communication, as well as the personal creation process.Professor Zhou insisted on respecting tradition while introducing new ideas. These articles are the portrayal of his creation ideas. This book is divided into 4 topics: 1. Painting and calligraphy art research - narrating the appreciation, coloring, composition and subject matter of the Chinese painting; 2. painters' comment-commenting on the works of six ancient and modern famous artists such as Ren Bonian, Wu Changshuo and Zhu Da; 3. art reminiscence - narrating the anecdotes and achievements of the artists with whom Professor Zhou usually communicate at ordinary times; 4. writing course - recording Professor Zhou's family learning, the origin of the art, the art education at the University, and his 60 years of creative career, and the historical materials and inheritance relations of the personnel organization of the art circle in Suzhou 50 years ago.
