From the outside, Jonas's life appears unremarkable: days working at the law courts, evenings relaxing at home with his cat, and countless Sabbath dinners with his parents and an endless string of potential brides. But his routine can't provide what he most desires-at least not as long as he continues to pretend to be the person his overbearing parents expect him to be.

Micah anticipates a typical tryst with a new brothel client, so he's unprepared when Jonas inadvertently bursts past his emotional defenses. Before long, Micah finds himself involved in a drama far beyond anything his professional training has prepared him for.

Foreseeing too many obstacles, both men hide their feelings as they fall for one another. Jonas must break free from his parents' control before he can find happiness. Micah doubts Jonas can simultaneously love him and accept his profession. Personal problems are swept up in political unrest when new laws threaten both men's livelihoods. When even greater troubles send Jonas's world spinning beyond his control, it's up to Micah to save him from his downward spiral-if he can.
