Tim Denton, a software engineering manager for a Silicon Valley-based networking company, is called upon to fix a performance problem in one of their routers. He discovers that the problem lies in some mysterious code in the product. As he digs deeper into the code, he uncovers a plot of Internet spying and investor fraud. He enlists the help of Jennifer Ryan, an analyst at a venture capital firm.
