It's been said that after the pain, comes the joy. While it can be from any number of sources, perhaps the most poignant is that of child birth. Pain so intense, no mother can be held accountable for what she says or does while under its influence. Yet, when the bundle of joy is placed at her breast, all memories of the pain are instantly replaced with an unwavering joy. After that, perhaps the next most apt use of the term is the birth of a nation. Much must be endured before the joy of freedom comes. And in our case, although our travails have been horrific so far, the fetus is still in the womb. Beyond the high ideals scripted in our constitution, it seems we have much more to suffer before we swaddle the America of our dreams.
