Early childhood education practices offer many challenges to practitioners and researchers and the ways to address these challenges are diverse and manifold. To date, young children's own ways of meaning making are an important issue in the attempts to understand and improve the child's world, and to contribute to their development and well-being. In this respect, the relevance of narratives for the understanding of human activity and development is becoming widely acknowledged in (early childhhood) education. This text explores the potentials of a narrative approach for the innovation of early childhood education, both on a theoretical and a practical level.
