According to a competent authority articles relating to northern and central Asia are of daily appearance in the periodical journals of Russia; and we have in the more important tra vels of Mouravief, M eyendorfl', and Tim kowaki, sufficient proofs of activity and intelligence at work upon either extremity of a long and important line. The commendable advance thus made by Russia from the north should be met by a corresponding movement from the south, and the government of British India, without being actuated by either illi beral jealousy or unworthy apprehensions, ought.
