American author Nathaniel Hawthorne is arguably best known today for his contribution to the early 19th century romantic literary movement, of which "e;The Scarlet Letter"e;, his critical portrayal of New England Puritanism stands in the highest regard. In addition to his contributions to this literary movement Hawthorne also wrote numerous short stories including classic retellings of Greek myths for children. Following his 1851 publication "e;A Wonder-Book for Girls and Boys"e; in which he relates six such tales, Hawthorne wrote a sequel of six additional stories, "e;Tanglewood Tales"e;, which first appeared in 1853. Here we find the tales of "e;The Minotaur"e;, "e;The Pygmies"e;, "e;The Dragon's Teeth"e;, "e;Circe's Palace"e;, "e;The Pomegranate-Seeds"e;, and "e;The Golden Fleece"e;. A classic collection of Greek myths, "e;Tanglewood Tales"e;, along with "e;A Wonder-Book for Girls and Boys"e;, provides an excellent introduction to ancient mythology for younger audiences. This edition includes a biographical afterword.
