Jake Howard

On a ninth grade field trip to Mohonk Mountain, Jake Howard discovered a mysterious portal that was gone in a flash, but the image of it never left his memory. Now, about to start his junior year at SUNY New Paltz in 1997, he meets a girl named Beth. She's brooding, mysterious and beautiful. Of course Jake is instantly attracted to her, despite his best friend Scott warning him that he has a weird feeling about her.

One night, while at the local bar with friends, Jake notices his Astronomy professor talking to Beth. After observing the conversation and following Beth out of the bar, Jake's tender understanding of the universe is shattered and Jake quickly realizes that his junior year is about to be way more than he bargained for...
