Imagine walking backwards in your life so you can see where you've been and to know better where you're headed.

That's what Jeff Nischwitz did as he hiked the El Camino trail in northern Spain - literally and figuratively -he walked backwards to the present on this 10-day hike covering over 200 miles.

During Jeff's hike, he experienced extreme pain in his feet and ankles. He tried walking slower and faster, leaning back and leaning over, and also running downhill - everything he tried increased the pain. Nothing worked. When he became desperate to reduce the pain, he did something RADICAL - he walked backwards on the Camino trail. Yes, he literally turned around, facing up the hill and walked down the hill backwards - and it worked

Walking backwards is an antidote for the insanity many of us engage in every day. Doing the same things and expecting different results is part of this insanity. If you're stuck in a rut of any kind, just making slight adjustments and small turns will not get you unstuck. You'll need extreme shifts and radical adjustments (like walking backwards) to escape the rut.

Some walk the Camino trail for a journey of solitude; others walk the Camino to get away from life or to find answers; and others do it for physical exercise and achievement. As Jeff Nischwitz heard the calling to walk the Camino, he didn't know till it was over how profoundly it would transform his life emotionally, spiritually, mentally and physically.

A calling is an invitation from the Universe and we can accept these callings...or not. Jeff accepted the calling to hike the El Camino trail, and he persevered on that journey even with his bad shins and bad feet.
