History of Yucatan

Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. For some time previous to his departure from that tract of the American Continent, the government of which he had administered during a period of eight years, the Author of the following historical sketch had determined on writing, principally for the satisfaction of the Settlers, an account of the origin, the rise, and the development of one of the most remarkable possessions of the British Crown. It did not however occur to him then, that it would be necessary for the completion of his design to trace the connection of European enterprise with Central America to an earlier period than 1662, when the British logwood-cutters first commenced their operations on the coast of Yucatan.
