The year is 1896. Andrew Chetney, a painter that struggles to express himself through his art, is in desperate need of a ticket out of Old Hampton, a small maritime town that is the very definition of foregone glory. Meanwhile, The Inn, a lowly tavern in the center of town is shook up by the unexpected visit of a handful of strangers. A forlorn figure with his face half-hidden underneath a Stetson hat appears to be awaiting the arrival of Jimmy Carnal, a young bourgeois entrepreneur in search of his missing wife. Outside, Henry Creighton, a rowdy do-gooder is caught out by an upcoming storm as he tries to battle his way to the establishment himself. With none of these people part of the regular crowd and all of them dead set on doing right by their own hidden agenda, they are bound to ruffle some feathers... "Despite The Whims of Men" explores the moral conundrum that is the thin line between right and wrong. What if doing the right thing puts other people in harm's way? What if shying away from violence only seems to beget more violence? At some point anyone could be forced to make a choice that might be a burden too big to bear...
