The winner of the Friends of the Earth Earthworm Children's Book Award, 1994. Gary lives in one of the few villages in mid-Wales where the red kite still nests. When he and his friends are shown a new nest by an RSPB warden, they mount a dawn-to-dusk watch to protect the birds against egg thieves.
